Film XRAY team successfully shoot a sizzling promotional song ‘Jigiliya’ with sensual Evelyn Sharma

Forthcoming movie “XRAY” the inner image a thriller movie recently did shooting for a promotional song “Jigiliya” in Mumbai. The song features “Yaariyan” and “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani” Actress Evelyn Sharma and famous rapper Ikka.The song is produced by Pradeep .K. Sharma and Choreographed by Aadil Shaikh who has done many hit songs like ‘ Dilbar Dilbar’ and recently released “Chamma Chamma”. The soulful Music has been created by Music Director Raaj Aashoo  and Lyrics are by Shabbir Ahmed and is sung by Swati Sharma  (Award Winner Singer ‘Banno Tera Swagger’ fame). Rap by Ikka( Dilbar fame)

“XRay” - the movie is Produced by Pradeep K Sharma , Baba motion pictures Pvt Ltd.  Directed by Rajiv S Ruia, who has earlier directed movies like My Friend Ganesha, Saansein and Direct Ishq..
Director Rajiv S Ruia says, “XRay is a thriller and will give the viewers goose bumps and they will experience thrill in the real sense of the word after quite sometime with romance and comedy being the flavour of hindi movies at the moment.”

Producer Pradeep K Sharma says, “T Series " is a leader in the Music space in India and their sense of music is outstanding hence we decided to add a promotional song to our Film in collaboration with T Series.”

The movie is a suspense thriller and will hit the cinemas very soon.  It stars new faces like Rahul Sharma and Yashi Kapoor in the lead

Maharashtra Government’s Ambulance project to get global recognition


·       MEMS Dial 108 Selected by Ministry of Health and WHO to showcase its success story
before 23 countries

 Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services (MEMS-Dial 108), the public-private-partnership ambulance of project of Government of Maharashtra has been selected for presentation to 23 countries, as the best practice in digital health initiatives.

The Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare along with the World Health Organisation (WHO) has organised the Fourth Global Digital Health Partnership (GDHP) Summit in Delhi from 25th to 27th February 2019.

This is the fourth edition of the GDHP and also the first time India is hosting this event. The first three editions were held in Canberra-Australia, Washington DC-US and London-UK. Government representatives from 23 countries attend the GDHP. The member countries discuss and share best initiatives in healthcare that use data and technology and also share knowhow to implement them in their respective areas.

MEMS-Dial 108 is a unique emergency medical ambulance project of Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Maharashtra. Through a network of 937 fully equipped medical ambulances spread across the state, the government provides free medical care to all its citizens during any medical emergency. The ambulances are accessible to all citizens free of cost, on a toll-free call to the number 108 from any mobile and landline from within Maharashtra. Pune-based BVG India Limited and London-based UKSAS are the implementing partners of MEMS for the Government of Maharashtra. BVG is the leader and pioneer of integrated services in India.

BVG also has set up a state of the art Control Room in Pune. The control room operates 24 x7 all calls from across Maharashtra, where in the expert call handlers’ understand the emergency and connect the patient to the doctor in the ambulance and dispatch the nearest ambulance to rescue the patient.
The 108 emergency services cover all the urban, rural and remotest of places of the state with a well-equipped trained and expert team. For the record Andhra Pradesh is the second state after Maharashtra to implement the project in association with BVG. AP kicked off the project in 2017. BVG also has set up a state of the art Control Room at the state capital of Amravati. 

Maharashtra has emerged as the only state in India to showcase their success story. The 108 ambulance service system is Pan India project executed by all the state governments.   
Commenting on the development, Mr. Hanmantrao Gaikwad, Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), BVG India Limited, “It is a proud moment for Maharashtra and India that a home-grown public service project like MEMS is chosen by WHO and Union Ministry of Health to showcase before other countries. I am sure our learnings from running the emergency ambulance services will be extremely beneficial to these countries for running similar services there.”

Started in January 2014 in Maharashtra, the MEMS has received 1.54 crore calls, and has served 37 lakh emergency patients till date. This includes over 3 lakh cases of vehicle accident and around 9 lakh pregnancy related cases. Over 30,000 childbirths have taken place in the ambulances.

Mr. Gaikwad further said, “Emergency medical care is of paramount importance across the world. MEMS has reached service levels which now can serve benchmarks in the emergency medical ambulatory care sector. The core of emergency medical services is the availability of medical care in the ‘golden hour’, which is the first 60 minutes after any medical emergency. At MEMS, we are now reaching emergency patients in average 18 minutes in urban areas and in average 22 minutes in rural areas, from the time of receiving the call.”

These learnings of MEMS will serve as great help to the participating countries, which include Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Estonia, Hong Kong SAR, India, Japan, Republic of Indonesia, Italy, New Zealand, Netherlands Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, Sweden, Portugal, the United Kingdom, the United States, Ukraine, Uruguay, along with members of the World Health Organization.

Technical Guidelines for Diagnosis and Management of Hepatitis B will help ensure consistency in diagnosis and treatment of the disease: Health Secretary

In line with the Government of India’s deep commitment towards elimination of viral hepatitis, the “National Action Plan – Viral Hepatitis” was launched by Union Minister of State, Health & Family Welfare, Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey in Mumbai today. Minister for PWD and Public Health & Family Welfare, Government of Maharashtra, Shri Eknath S. Shinde; and Guest of Honour and Goodwill Ambassador for Hepatitis, WHO SEARO region, Shri Amitabh Bachchan were also present on the occasion.
Viral hepatitis is recognized as an important public health problem across the world. According to WHO estimates, viral hepatitis caused 1.34 million deaths globally in 2015, a number comparable to deaths due to tuberculosis, worldwide. In India, it is estimated that there are 4 crore people suffering from Hepatitis B and 0.6-1.2 crore people suffering from Hepatitis C.
The National Action Plan was developed by experts from across the country, in line with India’s commitment and keeping the global perspective in mind. The Plan provides a strategic framework, based on which National Viral Hepatitis Control Program was framed and launched in July, 2018 under National Health Mission by Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. This program is also in line with our global commitment towards achieving Sustainable development Goal (SDG) 3.3. India has affirmed this commitment at the 69th World Health Assembly.
India is one of the few countries in the world to roll out management of Hepatitis B and hepatitis C in a public health approach and offer free diagnostics and drugs lifelong to its beneficiaries.
The aim of the program is to combat hepatitis and achieve countrywide elimination of Hepatitis C by 2030, achieve significant reduction in the infected population, morbidity and mortality associated with Hepatitis B and C viz. Cirrhosis and Hepato-cellular carcinoma (liver cancer) and Hepatitis A and E.
Integrating the interventions within the existing health systems framework under National Health Mission are further complementing the efforts of increasing access to testing and management of viral hepatitis.
Coordination and collaboration with other national programs and schemes to provide a promotive, preventive and curative package of services will further augment the government of India’s determined efforts towards achieving the goal.
The Minister also released the Technical Guidelines for Diagnosis and Management of Hepatitis B. Many countries have achieved outstanding coverage with the hepatitis B vaccine, scoring an early win for prevention. In India, Hepatitis B vaccine was introduced in the Universal Immunization Program almost a decade ago. Since healthcare workers and high-risk groups by virtue of their occupation and behavior are more vulnerable to acquiring infection, it is envisaged to extend the beneficiaries for this vaccine to healthcare workers and high-risk groups under the NVHCP. Focus under the program is also on screening of pregnant women for hepatitis B, in places where institutional delivery is less than 80%, to ensure provision of birth dose hepatitis B vaccination and Hepatitis B immunoglobulin, if required.
Another important strategy adopted by the program is propagating the use of Re-use Prevention (RUP) syringes in the country.

Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey said: “Today, we have taken a pledge to fight hepatitis; while we have done this in the presence of hundreds of people, the message should go to crores of people. This is important as one needs to maintain one’s health in order to be able to contribute to the society and to the nation. The launch of the National Action Plan – Viral Hepatitis takes forward the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program launched by the Union Health Minister in July 2018. The aim is to eliminate hepatitis by 2030. I am confident that the programme will be successful. India plans to have a decentralized health management for hepatitis, which is necessary for effective treatment. An integrated plan is being prepared, with the involvement of doctors, experts and state governments.
The human body is invaluable, the more it is used, the better it becomes. Our motto is Sarve Santu Niramayaha (health and welfare for all); keeping this in mind, we have come up with a National Health Policy aimed at affordable, effective and universal healthcare for all. The health expenditure has been increased over the years, and we are progressing towards health expenditure reaching 2.5% of GDP. Ayushman Bharat has been rolled out to ensure universal health coverage; under the programme, primary health centres are being upgraded into health and wellness centres. We aim to establish 1.5 lakh Health & Wellness Centres by 2022, out of which 10,000 are already operational; by March 2019, the number will become 15,000. These centres have diagnostic facilities for twelve illnesses.

Indians have often had to sell their assets and other valuables in order to avail health treatment; more than 6 crore fall below poverty line due to the cost incurred on health problems. Ayushman Bharat will change this, it being the biggest health coverage programme offering 5 lakh rupees of health coverage per family per year, covering 50 crore people belonging to 10 crore families. The programme has already benefited 10 lakh people, 10,000 hospitals have already joined. Our aim is to offer a paperless and pocket-less health facility.”
The Maharashtra Health Minister Shri Eknath S. Shinde said: “I am quite confident that we will win the battle against hepatitis through NVHCP. When the whole country comes together for a cause, nothing can stop us from winning. Globally, 32 crore people suffer from hepatitis and 13-14 lakh deaths happen annually due to the disease. However, statistical data for India is missing in this regard; there is a need to bridge this gap. Sustainable Development Goals for leprosy and polio have already been achieved; similarly, SDG for hepatitis would also be achieved.

More than 151 health & wellness centres have been set up in the state under Ayushman Bharat, and more than 12,000 primary health centres and sub-centres in the state will be upgraded into health and wellness centres in the coming years.”
Goodwill Ambassador for Hepatitis, WHO SEARO region, Shri Amitabh Bachchansaid: I am here today because I am a Hepatitis B victim. While shooting for the film Coolie, I got injured and required a lot of blood; the blood given by 200 donors saved my life, but one of the donors was carrying the Hepatitis B virus. The detection process for that virus was not in order at that time, and that went into my system. This was discovered only in 2005, when I came to know that 75% of my liver had been destroyed. I am a living example of a Hepatitis B victim. I want to know the impact of the campaigns; we had done a similar campaign against polio, and now India is now polio-free. I am a TB survivor too. If it can happen to me, it can happen to anyone since TB is normally regarded as a disease contracted by those living in disadvantaged backgrounds; however, if its treatment is done timely, it can be cured. We must pay a lot of attention to the process of detection of these diseases; because if it is detected in time, it can be cured.

I got very interested when I came to know about the programme by Government of India. The need for dissemination of information about Hepatitis B is one thing which attracted me to the programme. Secondly, the factor of discrimination, particularly against women, made me sign in to this programme. I had heard many painful stories where women suffering from Hepatitis are evicted from the family. Women are half the power of our country; to be discriminated against just because they are carrying a Hepatitis B virus is not acceptable. I will fight for this as long as I am alive.”
Secretary, H&FW, Ms. Preeti Sudan said: “This is a start to fight against hepatitis together. Hepatitis is increasingly being recognized as an important public health problem. In India, the estimated burden of hepatitis is high, necessitating focus on prevention and control measures to mitigate morbidity and mortality arising out of hepatitis.
A National Steering Committee was formed to formulate the National Action Plan for Viral Hepatitis in January 2017. Various working groups were formed which looked at various thematic areas. The Plan was formed in consultation with nearly 110 experts, program managers, state officials and community members. Viral Hepatitis needs many stakeholders, it is a complex issue which we are trying to solve and contain through a multi-sectoral coordinated campaign. The detailed plan was concluded after several meetings. The framework was adopted in formalizing the National Viral Hepatitis Control Program which was launched in July 2018.

The Technical Guidelines is intended to serve as a reference document for practising physicians and provide standardized testing and treatment protocols to ensure consistency in diagnosing and treatment of the disease, in the scientifically most appropriate and cost-effective manner. This will be taken down to the lowest level of health care through the Ayushman Bharat programme. The guidelines released today will complement the general guidelines released earlier.
Thrust is now being given on improving the coverage of birth-dose for Hepatitis B, which will contribute to an early win for prevention. Vaccination against Hepatitis B to the health care workers and high-risk population will also be initiated under this program. No child should suffer from Hepatitis B.
The nation has made progress in improving blood transfusion safety, but much more needs to be done. The preventive, promotive and curative interventions need to come together, especially since symptoms for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C often remain dormant for long.
I thank the generic drug manufacturers, due to whom the cost of the 84-day Hepatitis B vaccine dose has come down significantly. We need to use social media and field outreach through mobile vans of the Ministry of I&B to improve public awareness on the disease”.
Regional Director, WHO, SEARO, Dr. Poonam Khetrapal said: “Today is a very significant day. The number of people suffering from Hepatitis B is very large in India. This will augment India’s remarkable work in improving the lives of those suffering from Hepatitis B. SDG 3.3 emphasizes the need for all countries to strengthen their hepatitis programme. Government of India is also a signatory to the World Assembly Resolution 69.2 which aims to eliminate the disease from the world by 2030. India is the first country in the region to develop its own action plan for hepatitis, which is a notable achievement. India’s leadership is demonstrated in the comprehensive Programme launch last year, and the guidelines being released today, provide a guidepost to other countries for emulation. Mother-child transmission is the most common way in which the disease is spread; all blood donations must be voluntary and non-remunerative, thereby reducing the risk of blood-borne infections of hepatitis B. There is also a need to increase public awareness, given that only one in 10 people know of their hepatitis status. India’s efforts in this regard have been very inspiring.

Just 3%-5% of those with hepatitis have been diagnosed; we need to scale up the programme, and reach those at risk. We look forward to the full implementation of the guidelines being released today, and their phased introduction into the health system of India. I thank Mr. Amitabh Bachchan for his commendable contribution in spreading the message of hope in battling hepatitis. I am confident that we will together win the battle against the disease”.
WHO Representative for India, Dr. Henk Bekedam said: “Hepatitis is very clearly on the agenda. The Ministry for Health & Family Welfare has moved very fast. The initiative launched on World Hepatitis Day is a great and comprehensive plan. It is wonderful to see India taking these efforts. Those in the Ministry raised the point that we do not have data on the number of people suffering from Hepatitis B. I commend the Ministry for taking the initiative to prevent Hepatitis B as well. Clean India is very important in this project. In a country where there are more than 4 million injections every year, making the injections safe would be an important step forward. The price reductions achieved in the vaccines is remarkable. The Action Plan is yet another initiative in ensuring a healthier India”.

Earlier, Joint Secretary, MoHFW, Shri Vikas Sheel welcomed the audience and thanked all stakeholders who have contributed to the initiatives being launched today. The cost of treatment for Hepatitis B for one patient has come down to almost 35 dollars per course, from 800 dollars per course earlier. The Government of India has allocated Rs. 907 crore for this program for the next three years.

NVHCP epitomizes government of India’s deep commitment towards moving on path of elimination of viral hepatitis. MoHFW in partnership with the states is making all out efforts towards this endeavour. Effective participation between government of India, state governments and other stakeholders will progressively strengthen the program and will remain the hallmark for achieving the program’s aim.

The event witnessed participation from environmentally conscious volunteers from all walks of life including Sugee Group employees, partners, local citizens and students.
Jay Foundation which is dedicated to making the beaches and our environment better with a motto, “To give back what we have taken from Mother Earth”, had taken the initiative 99 weeks ago to clean up the Dadar Beach and make it plastic free. His NGO has been awarded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for their cause to make beaches and environment clean.

RELIANCE ENTERTAINMENT WINS 4 OSCARS FOR GREEN BOOK AND FIRST MAN
 Anil D. Ambani led Reliance Entertainment’s JV with Steven Spielberg and Participant Media won big this Sunday at the Academy Awards 2019, winning 4 Oscars.
“Green Book”, directed by Peter Farrelly, won the coveted Oscar for Best Picture of the Year, along with the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Mahershala Ali, and Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Nick Vallelonga, Brian Currie and Peter Farrelly. The Ryan Gosling starrer “First Man” won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
“Green Book”, was nominated for 5 categories - Best Picture, Best Actor (Viggo Mortensen), Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Screenplay & Best Film Editing ; “First Man” was nominated for 4 categories - Best Production Design, Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing & Best Visual Effects & “Ready Player One” was nominated for Best Visual Effects.

Dancing Shadows Productions launches Music Video - the magnum opus ‘Neel Samandar’ with a special media preview


 Dancing Shadows Productions launched its much awaited music video named ‘Neel Samandar’. For the first time in Hindi film industry, a complete video has been shot in the serene locations of Andaman Islands and is inspired by a true story, that took place between the protected tribes of Andaman & Nicobar Islands & a tourist. The video is Directed by National Award winning Director Pradeep Sarkar and written by National Award winner Lyricist Swanand Kirkire. Featuring Actor Richa Chadda and debutant Ankit D’souza , a fresh face.

The event started with a soulful performance by Pandit Rattan Mohan Sharma and followed by performance by Benny Dayal and Prakriti Kakar. This was then followed by unveiling the look and showcasing the video to all dignitaries and members of media fraternity.

Actor Atul Kulkarni Inaugurates Robotic Assisted Joint Replacement Centre at Upasani Super Specialty Hospital


Doctors at the Upasani Super Speciality Hospital in Mumbai this week performed two back-to-back successful Robotics-assisted total knee replacement surgeries, for the first time in Mumbai on a 65 years old Kanchan Patil both with severe knee pain since over 5 years. These surgeries were done using the NAVIO PFS Robotics surgical system, the latest advanced generation Robotic intervention in joint replacement (developed in the USA) and to the delight of the families, enabled these patients to walk without significant pain within 4 hours of the surgery itself.

Giving impetus to the fact that girls are second to none and can achieve glorious feats of success on the back of strong grit and sheer determination, 13-year old Khushi Ankur Punj, a resident of Mumbai, has attained the rare distinction of becoming the youngest 3rd degree karate black belt holder in the world. She achieved the record at a camp held at Kolad, Maharashtra recently. A student of Holy Cross Convent, Thane, Khushi was felicitated on February 23 by noted actor Anuj Sharma who has essayed key roles in Crime Patrol (India’s longest running reality crime television series), Savdhan India and movie Padmawat.

“Self-defence techniques should form an indispensable part of modern-day school curriculums. Not only does it instil discipline & confidence and enhance self-esteem in students but is key to self-protection for girls in emergency situations. Parents should urge their daughters to emulate the example of Khushi who has made us extremely proud,” stated Ms Jennifer Ferrao, Principal, Holy Cross Convent School.

ISAR Conference 2019 Focuses on New Trends & Techniques in Fertility Management

• Three-day Mega Gynecological Conference ISAR 2019 held in Mumbai
• 13 global and national health organizations to participate in one of the largest Gynecological conferences of the year
• The conference was graced by Bipasha Basu, Soha Ali Khan, Shri Jayakumar Jitendrasinh Rawal and hosted by Aditi Govitrikar

With participation from over 2500 delegates and 400 faculty from across the country, and over 30 renowned international faculty from USA, UK, Germany, Greece, Australia, New Zealand, Dubai, Russia, Japan, Singapore, Denmark and more, the three-day Gynecological Conference, organised by Indian Society for Assisted Reproduction (ISAR)- the 24th Annual Conference ISAR 2019 held in Mumbai is one of the largest summits on fertility management this year.

Present at the inaugural ceremony were Chief Guest Shri Jayakumar Jitendrasinh Rawal, Minister of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra, Member of 13th Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and Guest of Honor Bipasha Basu Singh Grover and Soha Ali khan, Actress; Dr Utture Shivkumar Shankar, President, Maharashtra Medical Council and Dr Nandita PalshetkarPresident, FOGSI, Organizing Chairperson of this Congress along with Dr Rishma Dhillon Pai, President, ISAR and Dr Hrishikesh D Pai, Organizing Chairperson, ISAR2019.


Highlighting the key features of the Conference, Dr. Rishma Pai, President, ISAR and Organising Chairman ISAR2019 said, “The Conference focusses on advances in the field of fertility, obstetrics & gynecology with eminent faculties from across India and other countries, showcasing the latest trends.

“Fertility management is closely linked with specialties such as obstetrics & gynecology, pediatrics and neonatology. Assisted Reproduction needs a multi disciplinary approach and expertise.  For optimum and better outcomes, we need to integrate these and ISAR 2019 aims to achieve that goal. The Conference is bringing the eminent specialists in these specialties together for a better understanding, synergy and collaboration,” she added.

On the first day, there were workshops held by the prestigious national  and international organizations like Maharashtra State Chapter of ISAR (MSR), FOGSI Infertility Committee, Mumbai Obstetrics and Gynecological Society (MOGS), American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS), Asia Pacific Initiative on Reproduction (ASPIRE) and The International Society for Mild Approaches in Assisted Reproduction (ISMAAR). Other organizations such as World Endometriosis Society (WES), Indian Association of Gynecological Endoscopists (IAGE) also participated in this conference. ISAR also announced to start the course for special IVF nurses.


The 1st day of the event also witnessed the inauguration of “Newer Trends in ART” a book written by Dr Nandita Palshetkar, Dr Rishma Dhillon Pai, Dr Hrishikesh D Pai, Dr Sunita Tandulwadkar, Dr. Kinjal R. Shah and Dr. Manisha T Kundani.

Bollywood actress, Bipasha Basu Singh Grover, the guest of honor for the event said, “What you guys are doing is amazing that the girls can freeze their eggs and decide when to have their baby is wonderful. You can be in a stable relationship, stable career and then choose to have the child and give them your best.”

The Chief Guest, Shri Jayakumar Jitendrasinh Rawal, Minister of Tourism, Government of Maharashtra said, “I can see a paradigm shift in the mindset of the society and I was wondering why there is this fast change? The answer is ISAR. I would like to congratulate all of you for having this conference because this knowledge is to be distributed, knowledge is to be shared and knowledge is to be discussed and that is how things should work.”

“For the first time, ISAR has done a conference with ASRM (American Society for Assisted Reproduction) and ESHRE (European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology) with a special embryo transfer training workshop under the guidance of ASRM where the simulators and trainers have come from USA.  Bringing this breakthrough medical advancement to India is commendable,” informed Dr Hrishikesh Pai, Organizing Chairman, ISAR2019.

The next two days focused on scientific sessions, panel discussions, trilogies and these events would witness participation of a large number of prominent national and international faculties.

The scientific sessions covered cutting edge topics in daily practice, the most recent development and management of the rapidly evolving health care requirements.

The conference also appreciated the work done by doctors & teams on 16th February - Foundation Day of ISAR, which was celebrated all over India and also in Afghanistan, Somalia, Kenya by holding free camps, walkathons, seminars, public forums. Approx 250 centers participated all over India.

KPMG Report finds that for 72% of Users ‘Fun and Excitement’ in Sports is the primary motivator to play Fantasy Sports


  • Online gaming on the rise in India, revenues expected to grow at 22% CAGR from FY18-FY23
  • 54% of respondents* play fantasy sports for free
  • 69% of users say that there is NO overlap between Fantasy Sports and Sports Betting
  • Punjab & Haryana High Court’s judgment on Dream11’s format (or equivalent) of fantasy sports is a fillip for the fantasy sports market

 The Indian Federation of Sports Gaming (IFSG), India’s first and only self-regulatory industry body for the sports gaming sector, and KPMG India Private Limited (KPMG)launched a report on the ‘The Evolving Landscape of Sports Gaming in India’ at its second flagship event - GamePlan 2019. The report provides an overview of the online gaming industry with a focus on fantasy sports and eSports.

The report:
  • Highlights the findings of a survey conducted by KPMG on fantasy sports users to understand their preferences and playing patterns;
  • Aims to create awareness about the growth drivers of the fantasy sports market in India and the stark differences between Fantasy Sports, eSports and Sports Betting;
  • Finds that for 72% of respondents, the primary motivation for playing fantasy sports is fun and excitement. Further, 69% of respondents say that there are no overlaps between Fantasy Sports and Sports Betting and amongst these, 81% say that playing fantasy sports requires profound Skill and Knowledge

Based on the overall theme of The Economy of Sports Gaming’, the GamePlan 2019 event hosted three separate panel discussions: Future of Online Sports Entertainment in India, Growth of Sports Gaming Ecosystem and Fuelling Sports Fan Engagement. Panellists included the likes of Melinda Petrunoff,Facebook; Vikas Agnihotri, Google; Navdeep Manaktala, AWS; Varun Narang, Hotstar; Ipsita Dasgupta,Pro Kabaddi League; Ricky Thussu, FIH; Girish Menon, KPMG; Harsh Jain, Dream11; Karthik Sharma,Wavemaker, Arvind Iyengar, Sportz Interactive, Akhil Suhag, FanFight, Arvind Ramachandran, Fantainand sports industry experts like Amrit Mathur, Gaurav Kapoor and Joy Bhattacharjya, PVL.

Commenting on the occasion, John Loffhagen, President IFSG said, “With the rapidly growing digital infrastructure and emergence of new sports leagues, the Indian online sports gaming industry is witnessing a boom which shows no sign of slowing down. Exponential growth provides users with easy access to a vast variety of sports gaming apps, formats and genres. This could lead to potential confusion and misjudgement among players in choosing the right platform to engage with their favourite sport. As India’s only self- regulated industry body for Sports Gaming, we are dedicated to creating awareness about fantasy sports, encouraging operators to adopt ethical and best business practices and allowing sports fans to enjoy their favourite sports in a fun, exciting and safe manner.”
Speaking on the launch of the report, Girish Menon, Partner and Head – Media and Entertainment, KPMG in India said, said, “Online gaming in India is seeing increased traction due to the growth of digital infrastructure, with fantasy sports emerging as an important segment in this space. With the number of fantasy sports operators growing rapidly and the number of users on fantasy sports platforms expected to cross 100 million by 2020, this segment has the potential to spawn a whole ecosystem around it, and could help deepen user engagement with their favourite sports’.

Key Highlights from the KPMG Report:
  • 74% of users play fantasy sports 1-3 times a week, with the majority playing once a week
  • Around 20% of the respondents reported playing more than five times a week which indicates the growing traction of the genre in the country
  • Across all age and income groups, ‘Fun and Excitement’ is the primary motivator for playing fantasy sports
  • For around 50% of the respondents, the ‘Ability to manage teams virtually’, ‘Remain connected with the sport’ and ‘Utilisation of Sports knowledge’ were other important motivators for engagement
  • The ‘Opportunity to win money’ was seen as one of the motivators for around 30% of respondents, however, this was only the 5th most important factor for engagement
  • 54% of users play fantasy sports for free
  • 46% of the respondents have played paid contests at least once in the last 12 months
  • Important to note that only 25-30% of the spends on fantasy sports platforms come from the users’ pocket. 70-75% of the spends are re-investments coming from previous winnings, cash bonus or periodical promotional offers given by these platforms to their users
  • Majority of users from top 7-8 cities of the country were found to be playing less frequently than some of the smaller cities in the country. Nearly 85% of the respondents from the major cities play fantasy sports 1-3 times a week as compared to nearly 70% of respondents from smaller cities who play more than four times a week on such platforms
  • 71% of the respondents played fantasy cricket followed by 54% playing football. The non-cricket sports leagues in India are also witnessing increasing traction
  • 69% of the respondents say that there are no overlaps between fantasy sports & sports betting. 81% of these respondents believe that there is a significant amount of ‘Skill and Knowledge’ that goes into the selection of their fantasy sports teams. Fairness, legality and safe & secure nature of transactions are other aspects that draw users to play on fantasy sports platforms
  • Nearly 55% of the respondents had an incorrect understanding of eSports, associating it exclusively with sports based games. A further 22% of respondents were completely unaware of what eSports constitutes

*A dipstick survey was conducted by KPMG taking into account 336 consumers who have played fantasy sports in the last 12 months
